About

The Village of Mount Pleasant is a community rooted in a rich agricultural history; one that has always depended greatly on the natural environment which its original settlers depended. The earliest settlers inhabited the fertile soils along the western shores of the Root River, forming the township in 1842. Forty-eight years later, residents established their first town hall (1890) at the intersection of what is now Hwy 20 and Hwy 31. This town hall served adequate until 1949 when it was decided to build a new, modern facility at the intersection of Hwy 11 & Hwy 31. The new facility opened in 1954. Significant growth since then brought about the adoption of a local zoning ordinance in 1972, which established the ability to more efficiently control development, setting the stage for the future. In September 2003, Mount Pleasant took a big step in becoming incorporated as a village, securing its boundaries as an identifiable community. Over 175 years later, the community has embraced this history as a strong agricultural and manufacturing base has evolved to compliment its harvest land.

The Village of Mount Pleasant prides itself in one of its greatest assets - our location. Comprising of 36 square miles in Eastern Racine County, Mount Pleasant is one of the fastest growing communities in the State of Wisconsin. Stretching from Lake Michigan to Interstate 94, our location provides easy access to metropolitan Milwaukee and Chicago, including Mitchell International Airport just minutes to the north. An ideal location, great accessibility, a progressive attitude, and a hometown feeling are a few of the valuable qualities that make Mount Pleasant a great place to live and visit.

Village life offers a wide variety of recreational possibilities including nearby golf courses, the Pike River Pathway, miles of bike lanes, and 400+ acres of Village parkland. Our sparkling Lake Michigan coastline also offers water recreation via the nearby marinas and boat launches. Over the last few years, the Village has worked alongside Real Racine to create numerous inviting events including a half-marathon and a Halloween costumed run along the Pike River.

Mount Pleasant also offers a wide variety of business opportunities. Numerous local, national, and international companies call Mount Pleasant home, including Putzmeister, Case New Holland, SC Johnson, Diversey, Horizon Retail Construction, Racine Federated, and many others. Companies are also consistently expressing interest in the community and the area as a whole. This interest in development, despite the economic conditions both nationally and worldwide, has allowed the Village to see modest growth providing additional jobs and amenities for our residents. Two Tax Incremental Districts, along with our strong location, will continue to sell our location for years to come. These districts have allowed for additional growth possibilities outside of the already very active development climate.

Mount Pleasant is creating an image to represent forward thinking, and with such, we anticipate your visit and can’t wait to help in making Mount Pleasant YOURS.
