Lateral Transfer Program

Bring your experience, Preserve your pay.

The Mount Pleasant Police Department welcomes officers who have prior law enforcement experience and offers a lateral transfer program to help them maintain the salary and benefits they’ve earned through their tenure at other departments.

The starting salary for newly hired officers scales up based on their prior service. The program offers year-for-year credit with placement in the corresponding pay scale to individuals with qualifying law enforcement experience. Officers joining the department with prior experience could also start with more vacation time. That time increases depending on the amount of prior experience.

Officers hired as lateral transfers from another state or federal agency will have 12 months to successfully complete the State of Wisconsin Law Enforcement Reciprocity Exam. According to the Mount Pleasant Professional Police Association 2023-2026 collective bargaining agreement, a top pay of $91,003 is reached in 3 years.

Please email Laura Mitchell at lmitchell@mtpleasantwi.gov or Lisa Klotz at lklotz@mtpleasantwi.gov for more information about the Mount Pleasant Police Department lateral transfer program.
