Mount Pleasant operates a seasonal Compost Site free of use for Village residents. Residents may dispose of acceptable yard waste items at the Compost Site during hours of operation. The Village does not collect yard waste curbside.
Upon entering the Compost Site, residents will be asked to provide proof of residency to the Site Attendant. Examples of proof of residency include but are not limited to, a current driver's license with Mount Pleasant address, a utility bill, or a real estate tax bill. To expedite future visits, residents may ask the Site Attendant for a car window sticker to use for the season.
Mount Pleasant offers mulch, wood chips, and compost free of charge for residents. Any of these items are available for pick-up from the Compost Site during seasonal operating hours. All items are first come-first served. Village staff is not available to help load the items. Residents assume the responsibility of loading and transporting any of these materials. The Village does not offer delivery.
Any contractor in the business of landscape architecture, construction, or maintenance may dispose of compostable material at the Compost Site only after complying with Section 66-35 of the Municipal Code which requires the purchase of an annual Contractor's Permit and coupon booklet from the Village Clerk-Treasurer's office. One coupon shall be presented for every five cubic yards of compostable material. Additional coupon booklets are available for purchase with a valid Contractor's Permit.
