PUBLIC HEALTH PREPAREDNESS
Protecting the health of the community requires a public health
workforce that is well prepared to respond to a wide range of public health
threats.
The Health Department has been working with partner agencies to prepare for all
types of public health emergencies. These emergencies could range from an
incident of severe weather to an act of terrorism.
Currently, the Health Department has an all hazards Public Health Emergency Plan
(PHEP) and two appendices, the Mass Clinic Plan and Pandemic Influenza Plan.
Federal grant funding is used to continuously improve response plans, hold
trainings for employees and community members, purchase equipment, and conduct
drills and exercises to test the different plans and identify gaps. These
efforts have made the Health Department more prepared than ever before.
PREPAREDNESS AT HOME
It is important for individuals to be prepared at home for any type of
disaster. Your survival may depend on it. The Federal Emergency Management
Agency (FEMA) recommends that individuals are able to make it on their own for
at least 3 days following a disaster. Please visit some of the websites below
to learn how to prepare yourself for any type of disaster.
