1. Does the Village collect yard waste curbside?

No. The Village has a compost site where residents can drop off yard waste. Do not place yard waste such as grass clippings or leaves in the street. Click here for more information. 

2. What day is my garbage and recycle collection?

3. Who do I contact if my garbage or recycling was not picked up?

The Village contracts with GFL Environmental for waste collection services. Contact GFL Environmental at (262) 679-0860 to report a missed collection. 

4. How do I schedule a bulk pickup?

5. Are there requirements or restrictions for mailbox placement?

Yes. Mailbox installation should follow the U.S. Postal Service standards for the type of box, support post, and set-back placement. Some mailbox types are prohibited in the right-of-way. If you are considering installing a mailbox outside of the U.S. Postal Service standards, contact the Engineering Department for more information. 

6. Why was snow plowing not completed on a dead-end or a cul-du-sac?

The presence of parked cars on either side of these roads prevents plow trucks from traversing a cul-du-sac or backing out of a dead-end road. We ask that vehicles be parked in driveways when snow plowing operations are expected. Contact the Public Works Department at (262) 664-7844 to report an unplowed road. 

State-owned and County-owned roads in Mount Pleasant are plowed by Racine County Public Works. Find a list of roads maintained by Racine County here. 

7. When is my road scheduled for repaving?

Road paving is governed by the 5-year Public Works Capital Improvement Plan (CIP). This document typically changes from year to year. The Village Engineer presents the recommended 5-year plan to the Public Works Committee annually based on a pavement rating system to recommend to the Village Board which roads to include for reconstruction or repaving the following year. The Village Board determines the amount of funding for budget allocation to fund paving. If the paving recommended by the Committee is not fully funded, the 5-year CIP is reviewed and revised for the following year's budget cycle. Click here to find a list of road paving projects.

8. There is a dead or fallen tree in the right-of-way. Who is responsible for removing it?

If the tree is in the Village right-of-way and is deemed a potential hazard, the Village will remove the tree at no cost to the property owner. If a fallen tree is located within a waterway and is deemed a significant impediment to flow within that waterway, the Village will agree to remove the tree and leave it on the property from which it was removed, pending written permission from the property owner.

9. Who is responsible for the culvert under my driveway?

Driveway culverts are owned by the respective property owner (those with ownership of the driveway crossing the culvert). If a property owner wishes to replace their driveway culvert, there is a required culvert installation permit administered by the Highway Department which includes the Highway Department setting grades for and placing the culvert, but does not include purchase and delivery of the pipe.
