What to do if you get a Village of Mount Pleasant traffic, municipal or parking ticket and believe you are "Not guilty"?
At the hearing date listed on the top of the ticket, you must either appear in person, or have already sent a letter to the court saying that you are "not guilty" of the violation. All letters to the court must list the ticket number and the date of the court hearing.
The address is:
MUNICIPAL COURT CLERK 6126 Durand Avenue Racine, WI 53406
If you require an interpreter or other accommodation, you must notify the Municipal Court Clerk at least 7 days before your court date.
The court will enter your "plea" on the hearing date, and assign a date for the first part of your "Trial". You must appear in person, and cannot do this by a letter. At the first part of your trial you will have the opportunity to discuss the circumstances of the ticket, and to determine whether you will need to have an additional proceeding before the judge. Not all cases go before the judge.
Failure to appear at your court hearing date or your court hearing date may result in a default judgment against you, which may include money forfeiture, Driver's License suspension, vehicle registration suspension, or the issuance of a Commitment for your arrest.
You may have an attorney help or represent you at any time, but you are not required to do so. The Public Defenders Office does not get involved in this type of case.
The Village of Mt. Pleasant VILLAGE ATTORNEY'S OFFICE represents the Village during trial in the Municipal Court.
The VILLAGE ATTORNEY'S OFFICE will not discuss your ticket with you other than on your scheduled court date.
